He is no longer “Donald Trump.” Now people will be referring to him as “President-elect Donald Trump.”
Whether you voted for him or not, whether you are happy with the outcome or not, for the good of our members, families and businesses, we have to hope he succeeds and does it in a professional way, because our livelihoods and our future depend on his success.
Nationally, we just have to hope this new Congress shows some restraint in what they hope to accomplish because as the Democrats know all too well, the balance of power can shift quickly. Obama came in, enacted Obamacare with Democratic majorities in the House and Senate, then mid-terms came along and the majority was gone. Passing controversial legislation can lead to a quick shift of power in Congress!
In Ohio, we are OK because we are not in the same position as residents of Kentucky and West Virginia. We have worked hard over the past four years to put ourselves in a good position. Although the Senate and House majorities have increased by one seat a piece, I still think we are in a good position moving forward to be able to stop the repeal of Prevailing Wage or the implementation of So-Called “Right to Work.”
Some bit of good news came out of West Virginia on election night, as a Democratic Governor was elected. However, we still have our work cut out for us in the House of Delegates and the Senate.
With that being said, there will be some individuals out there that will work hard to try to dismantle the work we’ve done and repeal Prevailing Wage or make Ohio a So-Called “Right to Work” state. Rest assured; they will have to get through an army of lobbyists on our side, who are ready to fight them tooth and nail to protect our members.
The leadership team here at Local 33 will continue to do everything possible to ensure our members have bright futures and I will continue to do everything in my power to prevent harmful anti-labor bills from becoming law.
Thank You,
Bobby Ina
